Following the reissues earlier this year of Duran Duran’s eponymous debut and ‘Seven and The Ragged Tiger’ albums, EMI is pleased to announce the release of 2-CD/DVD Limited Special Editions of the band’s hugely influential fourth and fifth albums, ‘Notorious’ and ‘Big Thing’.

Originally released in 1986, ‘Notorious’ was produced by Nile Rodgers and saw the band boldly move away from their foray into Euro-dance-pop and made a more heavily funk-infused album. Nowhere is this shown more than in the UK Top 10 title track, which proved an influence on the next generation, particularly the US hip hop community, where it was sampled for Biggie Smalls’ ‘Notorious’.

Disc one of this Ltd. Special Edition includes the original album plus single remixes. CD2 is a bonus album with seven mixes and the ‘Duran Goes Dutch’ EP recorded at the Ahoy, Rotterdam, 7 May 1987. The DVD, Working For The Skin Trade live show, was filmed during the Strange Behaviour Tour in Rio De Janeiro, ’87 – ’88. Plus the official videos for Notorious, Skin Trade and Meet El Presidente, and a live TOTP’s performance of Notorious from November ’86.

Recorded at Devout Studios, Paris 1988 & co-produced by Jonathan Elias & Daniel Abraham, the multi-platinum selling ‘Big Thing’ was originally released in 1988. The band changed direction again, to a more synth and bass-heavy sound, creating a transitional album that tapped into the emerging rave culture and creating, what’s referred to by many, as their ‘house’ album. This is shown in the title track and first single ‘I Don’t Want Your Love’ and second single, ‘All She Wants Is’. Beyond the obvious house influences, the band made a diverse album which also included a number of tracks with lush arrangements. The album’s cover art was designed by Swiss illustrator and artist Hans Arnold.

Disc one restores the album to what the band originally wanted, with the inclusion of the original mix of 'Drug (It's Just A State Of Mind)', rather than the remix that made the final album (this version has only ever been released in this form once before - on a Japanese CD reissue). The bonus album features the singles, b-sides and mixes, plus the remix album version of 'Drug (It's Just A State Of Mind)'. The Special Edition DVD is Big Thing live in Palatrussardi, Milan, Italy, 12th December 1988,
plus the videos 'I Don’t Want Your Love', 'All She Wants Is' and 'Do You Believe In Shame?’.

Both the limited edition releases will be clamshell packaged in lift-off-lid boxes (the same packaging as the recently acclaimed Radiohead reissues), and include an eight-page booklet, five postcards and a folded poster. Both albums will also be available as 2-CD digi-pack editions.

There will also be limited, one-off 180g heavyweight double-vinyl releases of each album which, as well as the original album, will also include a selection of remixes (see below).
