DURAN DURAN MONTHLY COLLECTOR’S CORNER: AUGUST, 2021

August 16th, 2021

As we await the return of Duran Duran to live stages around the globe, this month we are going to revisit an assortment of tickets, set lists and passes. The keen among you will recall our first foray into this topic was way back in August 2014!

Let’s start out with this ticket stub from THE TONIGHT SHOW with Jay Leno, in Burbank, California from October 9, 1997.

In the summer of 1983, Duran Duran were busy working on their third album. On July 23rd, however, they made time to play a one-off hometown gig for charity at Villa Park, the home of Aston Villa Football Club. This month we remember that special show, starting with these 2 adverts from the UK music press. On the left is the order form for tickets, which were eight pounds fifty and sold first via post. As longtime fans know, Nick and John share June as their birthday month. You may not know this, but the guys stage an elaborate contest to see who claims this month’s installment of CC, and who gets relegated to the second spot. This year’s ‘I hate ZOOM more than you do’ contest came down to the wire, with young Nick taking the win by a narrow margin.
